Essay / Diesel Mechanics Essay - 1821
The field of diesel technology is vital to society. Without it, buses, tractor-trailers and many other extremely important vehicles would be useless because they could not be maintained properly. A diesel mechanic keeps all of these vehicles running and in good condition by performing preventative maintenance and repairing items that break. They look like a normal mechanic, but their training is focused on diesel engines because they are different from regular gasoline engines. Diesel mechanics work on everything in diesel vehicles, like the engine, transmission, brakes, air conditioning and everything else. Education There are several ways to become a diesel mechanic. Some may go straight to certification and then go to work at a dealership, while others go to college and earn their associate's degree in diesel technology. This is a 2-year course that includes general education courses such as college algebra, English, computer applications, and general psychology. There are also courses specific to diesel technology, such as Diesel Engines, Powertrains, Hydraulics, Electrical, OSHA Training, Truck/Heavy Equipment Repair, Powertrains/Engine Overhaul, air conditioning, fuel systems and (electric) engine diagnostics. ). Additionally, while in college, it would be smart to obtain a CDL or commercial driver's license. A CDL is essential as a diesel mechanic because it will be needed to test vehicles to ensure they are operating properly. Some colleges offer a driving test to acquire a CDL. CDL stands for commercial driver's license, which allows you to drive tractor-trailers and buses. Most employers don't actually require an associate's degree in diesel technology, but it is highly recommended and...... middle of paper ...... would not be able to travel the long haul across the country as they do, they would not be as reliable or as effective. There are other areas where diesel power would be lacking, such as cranes, generators, bulldozers, road rasps and tractors/combines. All of these vehicles would be useless without the mechanics who repair and maintain them. Conclusion Without diesel mechanics, the world would not be what it is today. Valuable goods would be transported by poorly maintained vehicles or poorly maintained by people who don't really know what they're talking about. There would be no reliable, equally efficient and sustainable source of energy. Most of the time, people didn't even receive their goods because the trucks broke down. Planes transport smaller goods across countries, but diesel-powered semi-trailers take care of the transportation.
