    Fugui is forced to burn his shadow puppets, because they represent traditional China. Fengxia, Fugui's daughter, gets married and has a baby. During the birth of her child, Fengxia dies. The nurses didn't know what to do and it cost Fengxia her life. The film ends with what remains of Fugui's family sitting down to eat. The film's plot showed the rise of the Communist Party and included two of Mao Zedong's reforms. The film does a good job of including historical events in the plot, without taking away from the quality of the film. In fact, the historical events described helped to enrich the plot. The connection between Fengxia's death and the Cultural Revolution was seamlessly linked in the plot. Interested in the film, I researched it further. After reading about the year it was filmed and the awards it won, I found out the film was banned in China. This made me wonder if the Chinese government should censor the film.
