Selim I had a great impact on the Ottoman Empire. He continued the conquest of his ancestors and conquered many regions, such as Hejaz, Egypt and Syria. It opened new trade networks and was born into a civil war. He personally dethroned his father Bayezid II. Selim's reign was essentially conquest. He spoke of the rivalry between Sunni and Shiite Muslims. Selim led an eventful life and was a great sultan of the Ottomans. Selim I was born on October 10 between 1465 and 1470. He was born in Amasya, Turkey. Selim was the son of Bayezid II, an Ottoman sultan. As a child, Selim was well educated. He learned many things, but his favorites were science and government theology. Selim learned from the famous scholar Mevlana Abdulhalim. This tutelage can be compared to Aristotle's teaching on Alexander the Great. During his teenage years, Selim was known for his great love of combat and as a courageous soldier. Physically, he was tall and strong, with very broad shoulders. Selim had a characteristic mustache that stood out. Selim had the normal education of a prince. During the Bayezid Sultanate, Selim was appointed governor of Trabizon (Black Sea Anatolia). This is where he began to gain his reputation. Selim had a very angry character and expected a lot from his inferiors. Often Selim's viziers were found dead. Comically, one of Selim's viziers asked him if he could be informed in advance of his death, so that he could put his affairs in order. Eventually, he received the nickname "The Grim", for his countless executions. It became an Ottoman joke that people were cursed to be a vizier of Selim. Selim had a lighter side, often reading about politics and writing poetry. Selim's time as governor would not last, he had bigger...... middle of paper...... thrax. His son, Suleiman, acceded to the throne. Although his efforts were interrupted, Selim was considered a sultan par excellence. He had conquered Persia, the Levant and the Hejaz in the space of 9 years. On the day of his death, the Ottoman Empire spanned approximately 1 billion acres; its size had tripled in just 9 years. Selim's achievements allowed Suleiman to lead the Ottoman Empire to its peak. Today, a bridge is being built in Istanbul in his honor. Selim I is considered a great sultan whose reign was cut short.
