For example, “According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, hypersomnia is correlated with a variety of conditions, ranging from obstructive sleep apnea to brain tumors” (Boyd, 2016). Obviously, hypersomnia is a good reason not to sleep extra hours, as it is a condition in which one sleeps too much and feels sleepy during the day. Additionally, it can be dangerous if one is working with machinery or driving, as an accident can occur if one is not fully alert. While you might think that sleeping extra hours might be a good thing, the risk is less than not getting enough sleep, which can put you at risk for a stroke. We are also at risk of stroke if we lack sleep. For example, "a 2011 European Heart Journal review of 15 medical studies involving nearly 475,000 people found that people who sleep little had a 48% increased risk of developing or dying from coronary heart disease ( CHD) over a follow-up period of seven to 25 years. (according to the study) and a 15% higher risk of developing or dying from a stroke during this same period. (Boufis, 2016) Obviously, when a person does not get enough sleep, he or she may develop heart problems which in the future may develop into a stroke. It is important to take responsibility and get the required hours of sleep, this may have a correlation with any heart problems we experience.
