Social workers use a biopsychosocialspiritual (BPSS) assessment to gain a holistic view of the client. Using a BPSS, the clinician can see the outcome of how each interaction is integrated, which can help them identify risk and protective factors. In this case, the following will show all of Devon's strengths and what he will still need to strengthen these protective factors or mitigate risk. Biological Strengths and Needs Devon appears to have some people skills despite his methodical irritation with his younger brother. He displays considerable strength in that he is overly protective of his younger brother and will never go out of his way to harm him. However, Devon deliberately went out of his way to annoy his brother who has a severe hearing problem. Devon could use other skills to interact with his brother and use his coping skills when he feels the need to purposely annoy or disturb his brother. Devon was alert and oriented during the evaluation and became irritated by the questioning. There have been no reports of reaching developmental milestones. There is a need for further reporting on any biological factors that may have influenced Devon's diagnosis. Additionally, no family history of mental health or behavioral health problems was reported. Psychological Strengths and Needs Devon appears to be developing cognitively appropriately. The report card indicates that he has never failed a course. One of Devon's strengths is that he seeks tutoring for his reading comprehension issues to mitigate the risk of failure. No cognitive delays were reported. Devon demonstrates strong ability to understand course content. There is a f...... middle of paper......imperative need to know how Devon behaved during his developmental years at school. Did he exhibit similar behaviors as a toddler at school and was this considered age-normative behavior? This information would be obtained from former teachers who taught at Devon. Finally, how did Devon cope with his parents' separation? It would be interesting to see if these behaviors increased at the time of separation. Devon and his brother currently stay with their mother during the week and with their father on the weekends, moving back and forth between households can cause major stress in Devon. There could be a difference in parenting styles and continuity would not be aligned, which could be frustrating for a child who doesn't understand why their parents are no longer together. Devon would report this to this clinician himself during individual follow-up sessions..
