YouTube has been a game changer for video media. It wasn't necessarily completely different, but it was successful due to its simplicity, marketing, and user-friendliness (Oliver Reichstein). YouTube is a social media website that allows artists to share their craft or any individual to share any small aspect of their life. Many people use YouTube as a full-time job, with some making over $1 million a year. YouTube has provided jobs for artists as well as those running the business itself. YouTube is a source of entertainment and therefore has the ability to influence its viewers. YouTube currently has a large community of people who pay to advertise on their site as well as people who use YouTube videos to advertise. YouTube has also had a significant impact on the film industry. In the past, it was the majority of advertisements that were seen on television (Arandilla, Rachel). It now appears that the World Wide Web is the most effective (Arandilla, Rachel). The ads appear as pre-video ads that can be skipped after a few seconds, as banners on the side of the page and at the bottom of the video, and some as YouTube videos (Arandilla, Rachel). According to Youtube and the Impact of Viral Marketing by Rachel Arandilla, “its main goal is to increase brand awareness by replicating a viral-like process, such as the spread of a virus in computers. Often, viral videos spread through viewer sharing, much like word of mouth. Viral marketing often comes in the form of videos. The main goal is to create contagious viral messages that attract their target market with high SNP (social networking potential) and can easily spread across individuals.
