Gender Identity Humans are unique creatures, each different from the others; there are distinctive characteristics that every individual possesses. Whether it's how they do their hair, whether they eat their cereal in the morning, or what job they like best. These are all choices made by an individual or every human being based on how they feel or how they have done things since birth. But there are some things that in today's society are considered one of those choices. Things like sexual orientation, romantic orientation, and gender identity have been subject to negative stigmas due to the idea that these types of orientations are a choice. Religion says that any choice other than the normal choice is sin; others say that people who feel these different ways are abominations and serve no purpose in the world. Society tends to think that these orientations are all choices, with whichever one they focus on most being a choice. This spectrum can contain millions of different gender identities and orientations, because each person may explain their feelings in a different or unique way. These genders tend to receive negative influences and responses because some tend to think that they are not real or that these individuals are just looking for attention. Some of these include, but are not limited to: Gender Fluid, Androgynous, Bigender or Genderqueer. These genres are each unique in their description and how they can be categorized when observed by a professional therapist or psychologist. Transsexualism is another one of these non-heteronormative gender-based feelings or identities. Transsexual people are unique in that their body chemistry and anatomy do not match the gender their brain wants to be represented as. Gender nonconforming and trans people are grouped with a mental disorder diagnosis, called gender identity dysphoria or GID.
