  • Essay / What is the experiential dimension of religion

In this story, it shows “the power of God to free the chosen people from unjust suffering” (Fisher and Bailey 204). The passage contains rules that individuals must follow to show their devotion to God. This passage gives rules such as “You shall not swear falsely by the name of the Lord your God; for the Lord will not clear him who swears falsely by his name…You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Fisher and Bailey 204). Another important story in this passage is the section presented on the Sabbath day. This section of the passage gives meaning to why the seventh day of the week is considered a Sabbath day and what it consists of. For example, in the text it says: “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.” Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath day to the LORD your God; you shall not do any work, you, your son, your daughter, your slave, or your your slave, nor your cattle, or the stranger who is in your colonies. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth and sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it” (Fisher and Bailey 204).
