  • Essay / Goal Setting and Achievement - 615

To effectively set goals for oneself, as well as for one's followers, a thorough understanding is necessary of what goal setting is: an effort directed toward a specific successful achievement. “Without well-constructed goals, your life is governed by the whim or urgency of the moment.” (Wilson and Dobson, 2008) Therefore, only by setting goals can a person, group or organization effectively achieve their visions and achieve success. Leaders are usually able to help their employees set goals that will help them achieve organizational goals. Effective leaders will explore each follower's personal goals in order to set workplace goals, because when people can see a direct connection between their personal goals and visions and the organization's goals and visions, they are personally interested to achieve these objectives. and visions. (Rohlander, 1998). Rohlander goes on to state, “When individual performance is directly linked to organizational results, motivation is intense and spontaneous.” This same idea can also be called “higher purposes: (shared) goals.” (Watson, 1983) Once the organization's objectives have been identified by senior management and it is time to relay information down the chain of command, a leader may choose to state the objectives " in their worst form. (Watson, 1983) In light of the fact that everyone has an instinct to succeed (Oechsli, 2011), it will be a challenge to transform the worst situation into a better situation. This added momentum will certainly ensure the success of the organization's goals and provide employees with a strong sense of personal satisfaction and achievement.
