The speaker whose “only I had passed away” has a considerably somber and melancholy tone. This is opposed by the living who are constantly looking for “tomorrow”. The two tones form a metaphor that conveys to the audience that life is joyful while death is full of troubles and difficulties. The last line says "it only takes a day", which is symbolic of the fact that she is not welcome in the way of the living because she "stays too long", which is contradictory to how the house has welcomed her before. Communities often share a long history of past experiences with each other. These past experiences have a significant impact on how they relate to places as their ideals and desires change. People who share positive experiences in certain places will often have their place, although without this, this belonging will be much more difficult. The social contexts in which these interactions occur often determine whether a person belongs in a place or whether they are ostracized.
