As many media tools are a double-edged sword, they possess powerful social influence that can be good or bad. In the stories Two Kinds and Boards, both authors reflect how the power of media has influenced our perspective as a culture and an individual. In the story Two Kinds, Amy Tan depicts the influence of media on a mother who focuses on American culture to achieve success for her daughter. In Boarders, Thomas King depicts this media influence on a girl whose mother fights for her identity and embraces her culture.
