“Communication can be defined as the exchange of verbal and non-verbal information between a sender and a receiver” (Swaab, 2009). Communication certainly takes many forms. In all circumstances, communication is the backbone of any business. Without its proper use, the conversation about everything that needs to be done would cease to take place and would certainly paralyze a business. Simply put, doing business requires a lot of communication. Planning is essential to doing business. Knowing how to properly communicate these plans, from management roles to subordinates, requires communication skills. Whether it's persuading a customer to purchase a product or service or simply giving information about your business to potential customers, good communication is always essential. Getting a message across in an influential way often takes time, effort and skill. Skillfully presenting a proposed idea, product or service using communication skills can make the difference between a deal and a no-deal. Being aware that agreements are made and broken through verbal and non-verbal communication contributions is absolutely vital in the communication process. “Communication can induce cooperation and thus reduce exclusion from coalition agreements in multi-party negotiations” (Swaab, 2009). Verbal communication is the process of communicating through the use of words. This can take place in face-to-face meetings, telephone conversations, meetings, text messages, emails, voicemails, letters and even reports. Verbal communication will certainly have a lasting effect on the recipient as they will make doubly note of everything said at later dates and times.
