Essay / False Hopes - 1435
Almost every moment of their lives, people hope and dream of a better life for themselves or for another person they love. Yet despite their best efforts, the hope they had almost never comes true. They are unable to achieve this hope since this hope is a false hope. False hope is the hope that something will turn out a certain way, but never turns out the way we hoped. False hope is present in Richard Wright's Black Boy, Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman" and John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath, to the extent that the characters do not fully realize that it is false and act their best to achieve this. realize their “false hopes”. Their hopes are their adrenaline throughout their journey and although they prove false, the false hopes strengthen the characters. Therefore, false hope is an important factor in character development and growth. The hopes that prove false are the adrenaline that keeps the characters moving forward and the motivation for their actions. In "Death of a Salesman", Willy hopes that his sons, especially Biff, will become successful businessmen like he wanted to become. His hope, which he discovers will almost never come true, motivates him to give a little more to help his sons realize his life's dream. His hope for them was originally the hope he had for himself when he was young, but since he failed, it is a natural feeling to want his children to have a better life than him . This motivation, unfortunately, is the motivation to take his own life, unaware that it will not help his family financially. His motivation is very different from that of other characters in American literature. This really shows that he is a sacrificial, but somewhat ignorant, father who...... middle of paper ...... bad reactions or not trusting anyone and becomes an overall better person. As seen in many types of American literature, false hope motivates many characters to pursue their dreams and hopes. Once they realize that the hopes are false, they try to heal the wounds created by these false hopes and ultimately become a different and stronger person. This concerns not only many types of literature, but also many contemporary lives. Life is a process of hopes that either don't come true or come true, which rarely happens fully. It's amazing how much this relates to human life and there are definitely many more themes and terms relating to our lives as individuals, but we don't know it yet. Or do we know it and simply don't apply the lessons learned to our lives? We'll just have to figure it out ourselves.
