Essay / Yali's Question in "Guns, Germs, and Steel"
In "Guns, Germs, and Steel," Jared Diamond attempts to understand why certain countries and civilizations developed wealth and power and evolved over time. of history while other civilizations have not done so. . It also tries to understand how certain peoples were able to expand and colonize other territories around the world, and not the other way around. Throughout the story, Diamond seeks to answer a question posed by a man, a politician, whom he met in New Guinea during his study of the evolution of birds. This guy's name was Yali. Freight in other words is the materialistic goods. Diamond found it difficult to answer Yali's question at that time. However, he realizes the inequalities between societies, he even emphasizes that New Guineans are as intelligent as Europeans and Americans. Now Diamond is trying to answer the question. It explains why Europe, North America and East Asia are the richest and most powerful countries in the modern world. Why most Africans and other peoples are weak, conquered and submissive to Europeans. Why is the world distributed like this? Jared goes back in history to 1500 AD, even then there were differences between continents. Empires used different types of weapons to conquer tribes with older, weaker tools. But Jared then goes back in history to the end of the last ice age, where all kinds of people around the world were still hunter-gatherers. However, between 11,000 BC and 1500 AD, human changes and developments occurred in different continents and this is where inequality began to appear. Diamond claims that most countries in Eurasia, North America and others developed agriculture, animal husbandry, metallurgy, etc. while other countries remained hunter-gatherers. This is what made Eurasia and other developed countries stand out, improve their situation and witness technology. But the other question Diamond raises is: “Why has human development occurred at such different rates on different continents? ??”
