In the book The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, the main character, Hazel Grace, is introduced as a teenager. However, she is no ordinary teenager, she suffers from thyroid (lung) cancer. She is described as a sixteen-year-old girl with short dark brown hair, green eyes, and "chimney cheeks." She is described as a girl who carries an oxygen tank with a tube in her nose. Her mother believed she was suffering from anxiety and depression, so she sent her to a support group for teenagers who were suffering from cancer. While in her support group, she fell in love with a boy named Augustus Waters. They spent all their time together until one day Augustus became very ill and died. In this book, there were several quotes that I surprisingly enjoyed. For example, one that really stood out to me was: “You don’t get to choose whether you get hurt in this world…but you do have a say in who hurts you.” I like my choices.” This was one of my favorite quotes because it was honestly beautiful and revealing. It showed me how to choose who is in your life and who you can let hurt you, however, you can select the obstacles you will face in this world. Another quote I really liked was: “As he read, I fell in love with the way you fall asleep: slowly, then suddenly.” I also surprisingly liked this quote because it talks about love and how your emotions can be so strong for an individual. This is also how she feels about Augustus Waters in the book, after reading The Fault in Our Stars. I learned several things about life. The theme of the book is love and it is also life and death. What I learned is that even if you are sick and might die, you can still find joy in life. You should always make the most of life and be grateful for what you have, because you might be much luckier than others. Another thing I learned from this story is that love is such a beautiful thing to have in life that it may take a while to find the right person, but when you do, you will be happy. Overall I would give this book 3.5 stars out of 5 because I don't really like romance, but it was a good story..
