  • Essay / Thinking in Graphic Design - 1472

I discovered many new specific aspects of its profession that will better prepare me for this field. For example, Sasha highlighted the value of interdisciplinary courses such as marketing and advertising. In the past, I hadn't thought about taking these courses, but after learning that they are worth it and give me an added edge in job hunting, I will probably consider them more seriously. Likewise, I never thought about how crucial communication skills could be in a graphic design workplace. I knew that designers often create things that communicate with their audience, but I ignored their communication with colleagues and other departments within the company. With Sasha's help, I now understand that graphic designers must be extremely effective at listening, speaking, and expressing their ideas, skills that I will hone before entering this career field. Another useful piece of information I learned from this interview is the questionnaire, which helps a designer understand a client's needs, and the proposal, which details the benefits a designer can bring to the company. Since these materials are new to me, I will learn more about them and possibly apply something similar when I begin my own design career. Thanks to this new knowledge, my journey to becoming a graphic designer is now much more focused and propelled in the right direction.
