    This article focuses on “divided mothers” (Culp, 2010, p. 03) and on society's vision of what a good mother is by about what a bad mother is. Culp (2010, p. 03) explains this as “mother worship and mother blaming.” The articles examine the theory of the divided mother from different perspectives, from early modern and Victorian England to Anglo-American culture. Having examined motherhood in all these eras and cultures; Culp finds that regardless of era, there is a set of guidelines that mothers must adhere to in order to be considered a good and proper mother.
