Hope is something admirable to hold on to in times of adversity and struggle. But when we overlook a certain race, group, ethnicity or even gender. Many may begin to lose faith and become victims of false illusions; understanding issues that affect themselves and the community. For example, an individual is unable to see their true beauty beyond a broken mirror. In contrast, citizens who have been oppressed by outdated government constitutional laws and rules begin to lose confidence and do not see positive prospects beyond the present. As Dr. Dashti illustrates here: “Individuals who have a cultural habit of blaming, attacking, and who are cynical, do not want to move toward the future; rather, they want to travel in time” (Jabouri). Dr. Roala Dashti is working hard to change this attitude and is actively involved in improving democracy, voting rights and women's equality. His contributions have demonstrated how freedom of expression can lead to monumental and dramatic change in the quality of life of citizens. Kuwait, as a free and democratic state, has long shared power with the royal family. In which emirs (princes) rule the country and exercise much governmental control. Since being elected as an MP, Dr. Dashti has worked to change political policies and develop new laws. As a speech given after winning the North-South Prize highlighted: “As a member of parliament and a Kuwaiti woman who wants to bring her country to the highest levels in terms of human rights, we have succeeded, I- same and other Kuwaiti parliamentarians, to promulgate a new labor law that protects the rights of nationals and expatriates in the private sector » Without a doubt, the 2009 ...... middle of paper ...... n individual can have a strong impact. If we take the time to listen and understand everyone's problems and reasoning, let's not wait for a majority or a power group to make a decision. We can learn to cooperate and work together as a global community to one day achieve peace.
