The attacks of September 11, 2001 were carried out by four different planes hijacked by 19 hijackers. One of the planes hit the North Twin Tower in New York and another hit the South Twin Tower in New York. One hit the Pentagon and another crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, with an unknown route. More than 2,900 people were killed in the nine and eleven o'clock attacks. These attacks marked a turning point in American society because they strengthened security at American airports, triggered a war in Iraq and Afghanistan that lasted more than ten years, highlighted racism and discrimination against Muslim and Islamic peoples. and demonstrated American patriotism. Before the attacks of September 11, 2001, the level of security at American airports was much more precarious than the American government realized. Little did the U.S. government know that all a person needed to bypass security and gain access to secure areas of the airport was a fake badge and law enforcement credentials. Another area left behind in US airport security was the ability of security screeners who were generally poorly trained and therefore unable to identify objects such as bombs, knives, guns, etc. However, it only took one event to turn things around. That event being the September 11 attacks. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, security at American airports had a considerable impact on American society. The airport industry was one of the quickest to change security after the attacks, as it had to take steps to ensure its customers felt safe during their flight.
