    We have a choice in what we do. But if that is the case, why do we always let our environment influence who we are. Humans become something they are not because they want to be accepted into their society. Why do they do this? Well, studies show that it's easier to participate than to stand out. This means it's easier to change to fit who you really are. On the one hand, we come into the world knowing nothing about social structures, so we get used to them. On the other hand, expand who we are by making decisions in these situations. According to the article "Do we Choose Our Identity", the author states: "The extent to which we choose our identity, rather than having it imposed on us via outside influence, is arguably a matter of awareness and attention . When we are unaware of the power of outside influence, we become like lumps of clay, unconsciously shaped to fit someone else's accepted or preferred standards of reality.
