In The Odyssey, the reader can find at least four characteristics that help prove that it is an epic poem. For thousands of years, people have enjoyed the entertainment of epic poems. The Odyssey is an epic poem. The Odyssey contains the characteristics of an epic poem. The setting of the Odyssey is immense. The gods and goddesses of ancient Greece frequently appear in the Odyssey. Odysseus embodies a particular type of pride. Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus undertakes a difficult journey. .One feature is the vast setting that Odysseus experiences throughout his journey. Another example is the imposing and larger-than-life stature of Odysseus. The same goes for the superhuman acts that Odysseus performs during his long, arduous journey. The Odyssey is based on a central hero whose actions determine the fate of his kingdom. Throughout the Odyssey, the reader is given detailed details of the vast setting that Odysseus experiences. During Odysseus' journey across the sea, he discovers many previously unknown lands and peoples. In “The Odyssey,” Odysseus leaves his known world of Ithaca and enters the unknown world. There he finds the country of the Cyclops, the island of Aeolia and Ogygia. During his journey, Odysseus must go to the Underworld to find Tiresias. The blind man will tell him whether or not he will return home to Ithaca. Another characteristic is Odysseus' imposing, larger-than-life stature. When Odysseus returns to Ithaca, he draws his bow and continues to slaughter the suitors who threatened his reign. Stringing one's bow and drawing it repeatedly, when even the strongest suitor could not draw it, shows great strength. This proves that he is a larger than life man with unparalleled strength.
