Animals are beaten, mistreated, often crammed into tiny cages, and suffer most of their lives. Chickens are given hormones to enlarge their breasts, thighs and wings to the point that even their legs can no longer support them (Vegecated). The documentary Vegecated is an interesting look into the world of processed industrial agriculture. I completely understand why the United States has been forced to compete in order to feed a growing population. However, animals are treated like machines and the entire process of getting the meat has been sped up to accommodate the large number of people living in America and the need for a cheaper price. I was horrified to learn that farmed animals are not covered by the Animal Welfare Act and that laws meant to protect farmed animals are not enforced. The animals are therefore helpless and suffer. This documentary simply strengthened my belief in becoming a vegetarian and even more so my thoughts on becoming a vegetarian..
