We are reading “metamorphosis” written by Kafka in class. We meet Samsa, the main character, who woke up and found himself transformed into an insect. Many consider the story to be burlesque but for me, I realized that the story is didactic. This illustrates that materialism is evident in families, in which family members harm each other just for money and loving oneself is also important. Money is considered one of the most important things people should have. Mr. Samsa, Gregor's father, suffered a business misfortune five years ago and his son took over the family responsibilities and debts. Kafka points out that "Gregor had begun to work with particular intensity and, from the status of a minor assistant, he had become, almost overnight, a traveling salesman, who naturally had quite different possibilities of earning money. 'money and whose success at work immediately translated into cash commissions, which could be put on the table at home for his astonished and delighted family.
