Yahoo Case1. Success as a web search engine. Why Yahoo! such early success on the Web? Yahoo enjoyed early success due to a combination of factors such as timing, hard work, and a good understanding of Internet users' tastes and needs. By early 1995, Netmania was blooming. It was a great time to be a young entrepreneur with an Internet idea. Dave Faldo and Jerry Yang saw consumers' need to classify and differentiate websites. Responding to the urge to automate this process, Yahoo's founders chose instead to perform this research manually, reviewing and ranking approximately 1,000 sites per day. This approach combined with their decision to offer a free service led to rapid success.b. Why Yahoo! More effective as a search engine than other technically superior search engines? The Yahoo! search engine was designed to be both reliable and streamlined. The design was simple so it would pop quickly. The emphasis was on quality, not quantity. Yang's comment that "if you have 13 Madonna sights, you probably don't need a 14th" rings true. Internet users choosing Yahoo! not only did they receive reliable information, but they weren't bombarded with 1,000 views to review. Additionally, Yahoo! provided a product that is attractive and fun to use.c. Why does the fact that “Yahoo!” is spending money on people, not computers, one of the keys to its success? The business plan of the founders of Yahoo! involved manually categorizing existing websites and providing a shortlist of quality websites to choose from. This man-made directory was all that set Yahoo! from its competitors when the Internet euphoria swept the stock market in early 1996. Other search engines offered the user whatever met the search requirements. The concept of Yahoo! saved the browser the time it would otherwise spend filtering through garbage to find these quality sites.2. Build a Web Sight and the Branda.
