Nowadays, guns are part of our lives; However, many believe that guns are the cause of most crime in the United States. Additionally, some believe that there will be no criminal activity if there is gun control. Today, the issue of gun control remains an important decision in our country. In my opinion, people do not recognize the problem of dangerous people in our society today. In the article “A Peaceful Woman Explains Why She Carries a Gun,” Linda Hasselstrom explains that only carrying a gun can keep her safe. She lived alone in a rural area and was always followed by a man. Hasselström's story shows that women should always try to be careful and cautious because they cannot predict what others will do to them. Hasselstrom also states that she is a peaceful woman; nevertheless, his past experience taught him how to carry a gun, learn Kung Fu, and realize that men and women are not equal in our society. Hasselstrom explored various self-defense options before making the decision to carry guns. She was calling for help on the CB radio. However, Hasselström explains that CB radio cannot help much when it comes to protection. At the time, a woman had a flat tire so she attempted to call for help via CB radio. Unfortunately, she was raped. For this reason, Hasselström ruled out the use of CB radio because it could not help the victims immediately. After that, she decided to take a Kung Fu class, because she believes that this martial art can protect her from strangers. However, she thinks it would be difficult to fight against a 220-pound man unless she was very skilled in martial arts. She also read articles written by several women who were well trained in Kung Fu and ultimately raped by strangers. Long story short, Hasselstrom decided to carry a gun for protection....... middle of paper ...... I realized it would be one of the best experiences of my life. Ultimately, I feel ridiculous for being nervous in the first place. San Jose State University is my passion and the school of my choice, and I will not regret my decision. If we always think more positively, all decisions will help shape the person we will become, and I am sure that everyone will be able to make an important decision for themselves.Work CitedHasselstrom, Linda. “Peaceful woman explains why she carries a gun.” Models for Academic Writing (2013): 354-358.
