'Barriers to Effective Communication'Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another. It is very important in our daily lives because it allows us to transmit information to each other and around the world. Many obstacles can block effective communication. These include barriers to listening, our perceptions and our verbal communication. There are a multitude of ways that the above barriers can limit communication. First, there are many reasons why our communication is blocked by our listening. Some of these barriers include environmental distractions, physical impairments, or being overly stimulated by the information provided to us. There are many environmental distractions around us, such as loud or distracting noises. Some of this noise can be minimized. For example, we can turn off or lower the music we are listening to, etc. Other noises we cannot minimize because they are beyond our control, such as the sounds of a construction site or the many people around us. Other examples of distractions we may encounter that affect our communication include feeling hungry, thirsty, or needing to go to the bathroom. They affect our listening skills because our minds are preoccupied with our current needs. We may also become unable to listen effectively if we are in a poor physical or mental state. For example, if we suffer from burnout or anxiety, we may struggle to communicate effectively. We may need to express that it is not the right time to talk because we are not in the right state to communicate properly. Additionally, if a person has a hearing loss, it may be difficult to communicate effectively. If the hearing loss is mild, the person can help with a hearing...... middle of paper ......s.
