Essay / A Penny From Heaven - 1722
November to April is known as the social season in Florida. It is this time of year that men and women attend all kinds of galas and social events. These classy events can range from a charity event to an extravagant house party. Meanwhile, women dress in their latest high fashion clothes, making sure they have the perfect jewelry to accompany their outfits. The jewelry usually consists of their Hope diamond-like wedding ring, as well as the perfect bracelet, earrings, and necklaces. These women shine everywhere. While women decide what to wear, men have it easy. They make sure their tuxedos are perfectly ironed and their gold watches are ready to go. At the age of sixty-five, Barbara lost her husband of 33 years just before her favorite time of year, the social season. Eddie and Barbara were a happy couple with two beautiful daughters and four grandchildren. Barbara still thought she wouldn't be part of all the excitement this year. Barbara no longer had her life partner to share the experience of having other women envious of her, and she and her husband had a good laugh about it. Two things he particularly missed. Most importantly, she missed her first love to spend her favorite time of the year with. On a Saturday afternoon in December, Barbara was sitting outside in her private sanctuary with her daughter Layla, because she had nothing to prepare. Her private sanctuary was filled with exotic flowers and trees with brightly colored orchids hanging... middle of paper..., and she mustered the strength to break John's heart. She told John that she enjoyed her time with him but that she couldn't see him anymore. Barbara continued to date Len. After a few months of dating Len, she introduced him to her daughters. Layla and her sister were delighted with Len and remarked to Barbara "he's everything Dad would want for you". When the two moved in together, they both changed their relationship to a Facebook relationship. As November approached, Barbara was excited to share her favorite time of year with Len, while still holding on to fond memories of Eddie. On the day of their first gala of the season, while Barbara is getting dressed, she discovers a shiny penny on her dressing table. In her mind, it was a penny that fell from the sky, a sign that Eddie was looking out for her and that he was happy that she had found a nice man to fill her shoes...
