Essay / The Importance of Athletes in Sports - 1577
It's because that's how humans are, not what anyone wants to be. Competition makes people want to improve. Steroids are not a way to cheat to become better than someone, they are simply a way to gain an advantage and advance in the fight for dominance (McCallum). Steroids are illegal because they “violate the spirit of sport.” Cortisone injections are not illegal although they relieve pain in certain areas once injected into the body (Time). Cortisone injections should be just as illegal as steroids are in sports because injuries carry risks associated with playing sports. Instead, what should happen is that both become legal and allowed in professional sports. Indeed, if steroids are illegal and banned in sport, then anyone who uses steroids, even without getting caught, is a cheater and is simply someone lying to themselves. Instead of cheating and pretending to be honest, athletes should try a different approach. Instead, athletes should be honest about their steroid use. Athletes should try to be honest about any form of cheating (Stein). This will make people appreciate and respect them more. The reason athletes cheat is simple. We are all human and we all cheat. Athletes must accept this fact and be honest. Athletes and sports reflect culture. Culture does not reflect sports or people
