  • Essay / Dorian Gray Play Analysis - 631

The play I will be reviewing is Dorian. This piece has a different approach than most other pieces I have seen. It caught my attention and challenged me because of the different types of acting performances and the setting of the play. The point I would like to add here is that the piece was quite difficult to follow. However, I read the novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde, so I followed it to the end and the attention was still there. Additionally, any points that seemed missing to me in the play, I automatically filled in with my knowledge of the novel. But, for anyone who has not read the novel, it would be difficult to understand and continue the play. Additionally, the room was also confusing and it was difficult to keep track of the passing days. There was no real description of the day and night and it seemed like everything was going well. More importantly, the room was rather inappropriate for children. There was a different style and approach to a theme and idea. The play was unique in a sense because of the setting, the theme and the interaction between the audience and the actors. This kept the cast and audience active and involved with each other. I was quite focused because of the exclusive acting and unique theme of the play. If I talk about the positive points of this play, I would certainly talk about the creativity of the director. The way the director added dance moves depending on the different situations was simply overwhelming. This helped the audience maintain interest and focus on the actors. Plus, it made the whole act interesting and fun. On top of that, the way the background music changed was exactly depending on the situation and at certain times ...... middle of paper ...... added up and in the end the results like a touch of polish to the acting. In conclusion, the director's intention was to show love, hatred, bonding and changes with young people through the concept of double life. This concept was well explained through the theme called Aesthetics, which is basically a strong motif linked to a double life. Likewise, in the play, the only thing that documents this turn for the worse is the portrait, which alarmingly begins to show the inner corruption of Dorian's soul; the beautiful image changes, revealing new scars and physical flaws with each of Dorian's dastardly actions. So, I think the intentions were pretty well realized, even if the game was difficult to follow. Therefore, I think it was worth watching and I would definitely recommend it to others because society plays a huge role in every individual's personality..
