“Silent Cal” was the main name by which he was known. Calvin Coolidge our wonderful 30th president. Calm and reserved. However, when he had something to prove or express, he was no longer known as Silent Cal. As America celebrated its Independence Day, the Coolidge family celebrated the birth of John Calvin Coolidge Jr. Born in Plymouth Notch, Vermont, on July 4, 1872. His father was a very well-known man. John Coolidge was a successful farmer who served in the Vermont House of Representatives and the Vermont Senate. He was very engaged with his children. Calvin also had an older sister Abigail, who died at age 12. Coolidge attended Amherst College in Massachusetts a few years later he went to a law office in Northampton. He was known as a very serious student. Always focused on what he was doing. His parents, John Coolidge and Victoria Josephine Moor always pushed him to be a very mature man.
