A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry revolves around a short but difficult period in the life of the Younger family. Ultimately, each young person's ambitions are inspired by the dream of a better life for the family as a whole. Although each Youth approaches this goal differently, each of them desires to rise above their current position in the "rat trap" of society to lead a better, more respectable life (964). Each younger child pursues an ambiguous notion of success and believes that it will end the family's difficulties; consequently leading to prosperity and, of paramount importance to young people, the rebirth of family relationships and pride. Walter Lee Younger aspires to obtain wealth and fortune through entrepreneurship and business acumen. Walter's belief that money is life motivates his desire to become a powerful businessman and fuels his belief that the family's problems could all be solved with enough money (980). Despite his flaws, Walter persists in his belief that he can succeed as an entrepreneur, which ultimately results in the loss of the family's insurance money to Willie Harris. Walter's belief that money is the answer leads him to take an unreasonable risk. Although these risks result in harm to his family, they were undertaken in a desperate attempt to improve their lives. Walter's actions are also significantly motivated by his own paper. such as reaffirming their family pride and establishing themselves in a higher socio-economic bracket. Although difficulties will undoubtedly continue, the collaboration of Young People will succeed. Works CitedArdolino, Frank. "A Raisin in the Sun by Hansberry." Explainer 63.3 (2005): 181-183.
