    Even if they attend higher studies in a university, does that make them educated, is that a guarantee that comes with a piece of paper after four years? Some would say yes, but many intellectuals would say no. Many will enter college with an end goal in mind related to their specific major and will focus the majority of their efforts on getting to the point where they know an enormous amount about that specific subject. In their minds, this will have made them educated, and although to some extent they will have been educated, they will not have gotten the full amount they could or should have gotten. As John Henry Newman said: “If his reading is confined merely to one subject, such a division of labor may favor the advancement of a particular activity…it certainly has a tendency to contract his mind.” » By not branching out and opening your brain to strange, obscure, and seemingly worthless topics, you're doing yourself even more harm. The real reliable way to acquire an education is to seek what is a liberal education, where one learns not only what is necessary but also what is not. Of course, striving to obtain an education in a formal setting through higher education is only one of many ways to get educated. And although it is an easier method to acquire, it is not the best solution for everyone, nor even a real advantage over any other.
