More commonly known as “kissing disease”, mononucleosis or “Mono” is a serious and contagious virus. Mononucleosis is a condition characterized by an unusual proliferation of lymphocytes in the blood, due to infection with the Epstein-Barr virus. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a common and highly contagious organism and is a member of the Herpesviridae family. EVP has played a role in the development of certain cancers: lymphoma and nasopharyngeal. Some symptoms of “Mono” are often confused with strep throat. But due to the severe sore throat, it often prompts the patient to call the doctor and visit him. Some of the most common symptoms of infectious mononucleosis are: a general lack of energy or malaise, loss of appetite, chills, severe sore throat, swollen tonsils, high fever, lymph nodes (glands ) swollen, weakness and a swollen spleen that may never burst. So, if the patient complains of pain in the upper left part of the abdomen, this could be a sign of a spleen ready to burst and should be taken very seriously and investigated.. ...
