  • Essay / Oliver Cromwell, a hero and not a villain - 847

Was Oliver Cromwell a hero or a villain?I think Oliver Cromwell was a hero. He was good and ambitious, and he wanted England to be at its best, free of corruption and unjust methods. He thought Charles was doing the wrong thing, so he worked hard and had him executed. Oliver Cromwell was an MP and was against King Charles and his ways, so he worked hard and had the king executed. After that, he was offered the position of king, but he refused it, but he was lord protector of the country. After a while he dismissed Parliament (because he thought they were becoming selfish and greedy) and ruled alone until he died of an infection on September 3, 1658. Many people considered Cromwell to be a hero because he had obtained power. The king was executed for his bad ways and put the country in a truly good and wealthy position. He made things clear. Cromwell was a hero. "We need a person of great honesty and great courage to rid the country of evil men who derive their wealth from our poor, hungry and miserable compatriots. In other words, Oliver Cromwell.” The Poor Man's Guardian, 1831. These people were trying to show that Oliver Cromwell was perfect for the country. It's a log, so it's probably pretty reliable. But you can never tell because it is "The Poor Man's Guardian" and it only focuses on the opinions of the poor (whom Cromwell helped a lot). He doesn't express the opinion of rich people (whom Cromwell didn't help too much). Olivier was a hero. He was brave rather than cruel, he did the right thing and acted in the name of God when he killed many in Drogheda. He didn't intend to kill innocent people. He killed less than many people think. "It's not fair to say he was like Hitler or Mussolini, ...... in the middle of a newspaper ...... not in town on Sunday" or "no mending of dresses on Sunday" (basically, no work on Sunday). No one was allowed to have fun because of these strict rules. He didn't allow people to play even a small football game. He banned Christmas. Just because of his puritanical beliefs, why should everyone suffer? Just because he believes it, why should he force others to do it? Shouldn't they have their own freedom? Cromwell was a bad guy. He just wanted others to suffer. Many people hated Cromwell, but about the same number considered him God. People's opinions and impressions of him were different, but personally I think he was a hero. He established some discipline in the country (there is none now), he tried to train people to be good and courageous, but unfortunately many rebelled. They didn't understand his politics. Many have done so. Oliver Cromwell, overall I think he was a hero.
