Essay / Good and Evil in A Worn Path and...
SummaryThis essay will compare a concept of good and evil between two different stories. There is an obvious distinction between the stories; however, they are similar in one way. In A Worn Path (Eudora Welty) and A Good Man is Hard to Find (Flannery O'Conner), the only thing that stands out is the main character of both stories. The main character in both stories is the grandmother. Grandmothers are of course an important part of the family. In each story we have a grandmother of a different race, appearance and attitude. In each story, the grandmothers go on different journeys, but there is one thing they both face disrespecting. We live in a world in which the grandmother resides with the family and helps take care of the grandchildren. In today's world, things are different and times are still tough, if not tougher. We live in a time where respect is no longer earned. Nowadays it seems that respect is not as important as it used to be and this is evident in these two stories.IntroductionTwo different stories, two different individuals, two different lives, but one thing is evident in both stories, each situation is the same. Whether it was the hardships faced by one or the wealth enjoyed by the other, every grandmother was a victim. A victim of something many people are afraid to talk about. In both stories, each grandmother experiences some form of disrespect, because of their race. Racism was a problem for some then, and still is today. To me, these two different women are not different at all, they are actually the same. They are both individuals who have been placed in certain situations for certain reasons. Not everything in life will be filled with enjoyers...... middle of paper ......e grandmother. But the stories show a similarity during their journey and in the end the grandmother who was poor and had to walk to where she was to take care of her grandson knew that her faith in God would protect her of danger. The other grandmother chose to let her selfishness cost her life and her entire family. Today, in real life, grandmothers are there to step in when you need them.ReferencesBarnet, Sylvan and Burto, William and Cain, William E., Literature for Composition. 2007Bloom, H. (1999).
