    Christina Rossetti's poem is the story of a journey through the difficulties of life and through death. Even though the poem is simple and short, it is filled with eight questions and eight answers from the characters in the poem. It shows readers that once we cross the difficult path, there is ultimately a paradise for all. Whoever makes the trip is indicated by asking questions. The person responding is the second speaker, perhaps someone who has already made the trip. The second speaker is indicated by an indented phrase. Moving from the question to the answer, each stanza has four lines. The poem first follows iambic pentameter and then changes to trimeter. This pattern embedded in the poem could show readers the conflict between rhythm and meter. This theme of mixing rhyme and meter plays a role in the ups and downs of life and the journey the speaker goes through.
