  • Essay / Quality Management: Introduction - 1098

Quality systems are important in any industry and work environment. This report examines a case study of a Maclean Ltd, a new company and its journey towards achieving BSEN ISO 9001 status. The company is a small business of around 80 employees, which does not yet have quality accreditation. It is important to have proof of your capabilities, whether you are a heating engineer working on a gas boiler (Gas Safe Register Certification) or a large organization producing baked goods, certification is important for your business to thrive and that the client has confidence in your ability to perform the work to a satisfactory level. Quality management in a company is essential, it ensures the daily operation of the company is transparent and guarantees continuous high quality production of the company. ISO 9001 is the certification of a quality management system. If a company is ISO 9001 certified, anyone who buys their products or works with said company knows that there are systems in place throughout the company to ensure consistent, high-quality output. The key word here is consistent. A quality management system should ensure consistency of the finished product, so that the customer can be confident that the product will be fit for purpose and will not fail. This has to happen every time. To ensure consistency, various tests are carried out before during and after the manufacturing phase. So we do pre-inspection, test the components that go into the product, batch test, test the first or one sample of the product in the batch, inspect by patrol, where the site is patrolled and samples are taken randomly, and then a final inspection where the product is tested before shipping. As a manager...... middle of paper ...... is not working as well as we had it so we were hoping we would have to go back and improve it. We expected it, so we used it to our advantage to learn from our mistakes. Last year we hired an ISO consultant to test us before applying for the real project, but at that point we failed. But the feedback we received from the consultant was invaluable. We were confident that we could soon achieve our ISO9001 accreditation. So, using the consultant's feedback, management made a great effort to get this accomplished within a year. The staff were very motivated at this point because of the trust and open communication we built during this process, and we were able to achieve our accreditation after two years. The organization we used to certify our company is the BSI group. They tested our company and then awarded us our ISO9001 accreditation based on these results..
