  • Essay / Analysis of Children's Theater Styles

Children's theater is a form of mixed theater that includes a mixture of styles. The form of a children's theater performance is a mixture of many styles working together to generate dramatic meaning. A fairy tale is a traditional story written specifically for children and usually involves imaginary creatures/characters and some sort of magic. My fairy tale example is Cinderella; The story is about a young girl with a sweet character. Her evil stepmother and stepsisters didn't like her very much and wouldn't let her go to the ball, however, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother magically allowed her to attend. She danced with the prince and they fell in love instantly. As she had to leave before midnight, she ran and lost a shoe. The prince found the shoe and looked for it. When he found her, they got married and lived happily ever after. This would be suitable for a children's audience, as they are probably more familiar with the story and enjoy it like most children. A myth is a popular story invented in the past to explain natural events or to justify religious beliefs or a social phenomenon. My example myth is the most recognized symbol of love, Cupid. Once upon a time there was a girl named Psyche, men went to see her but no one wanted to marry her. Aphrodite, the god of beauty, was so upset that people didn't worship her that she asked her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the most hideous creature. Cupid looked at the girl and fell in love with Psyche at first sight. One day, a voice tells him that his family is coming to visit him in the mountains. She begged the voice to let her see them. The voice agreed but told him there was a consequence to this. When she met them, she filled her three sisters with jealousy. So envious that they plotted to make him lose everything. Psyche did as she was told and discovered that the person she loved and the voice was Cupid. Cupid was very irritated and left her. Cupid finally went to find Psyche after realizing he still loved her and once he found her he went to the gods and asked them to give Psyche immortality and officially marry them. In the end they got married, stayed in Olympus and Aphrodite. overcame his jealousy. This would be suitable for a children's audience as it conveys a moral message which is: "Don't just love someone on the outside, because it's what's on the inside that counts." “A very ancient legend or set of stories from ancient times that people tell about a famous event or person. My example of a legend is Robin Hood. A long time ago, in England, in Sherwood Forest, there lived Robin Hood. As a child, Robin had been tricked by some nobles and since then, he had decided that he would not spare the rich. He would steal from the rich and give to the poor. This story is suitable for children as it is entertaining and would interest them. A fable is a short tale intended to teach a moral lesson, often with animals or inanimate objects as characters. An example of a fable is “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”. A young shepherd, who was watching over a flock of sheep near a village, brought the villagers out three or four times, shouting: “Wolf! Wolf ! and when his neighbors came to help him, he made fun of them..
