    A Complicated Kindness is a fiction novel. Nomi chooses not to engage outside of normative standards. She insists on getting lots of attention from her boyfriend, her family, her church, and her teachers. . she quotes "Life being what it is, we dream of revenge. We just dream. (Toews p. 33)". This reveals Nomi's identity as she wants to explore who she is, she explains that she has a great sense of imagination, and also that she wants to live free, without worrying about criticism. Another way to describe the identity would be the age difference between Amir and his father. Amir cites his father's personality and the way he perceives the world. In this quote "The problem, of course, was that Baba saw the world in black and white. and he had to decide what was black and what was white. You cannot love a person who lives that way without fearing him . Maybe even hates him a little (Hosseini p. 74).” This explains here that his father is a dominant authority figure who molded Amir according to his standards of discipline. Amir didn't like rules but would never defend his opinion because to his father it didn't matter. This is important to Amir's identity because he is always unaware of its existence until he actually puts his actions into practice. These two novels are controversial because usually a woman with a father who loves her
