She wants to be with the one she loves, but cannot be with him because of the king. This is directly related to the fact that he is a prince and his grandfather is a king. This was a question of ranking which I think is another comment from Behn on the hierarchy of society and how messy it really is. As I briefly mentioned above, this text is clearly a critique of 17th century society and slavery practices. This is evident in a few places in the text, where he shows just a few of the cruel practices that were all too common during the slave trade. Unfortunately, because of this, we don't really get to see all of the atrocities committed during this era. We only have an excerpt
