Throughout history, the United States has engaged in many wars, but the Iraq War was one of the most significant due to its role in creating a wide range of different impacts on public opinion. While some argue that the United States should have attacked Iraq, many oppose the idea. The United States should not have attacked Iraq since the Iraqi government did not pose a clear and present danger, the war killed thousands, and the costly invasion starved resources from much-needed priorities in the country. The US government claimed it attacked Iraq. to prevent Saddam Hussein from using weapons of mass destruction. However, in the 1990s, United Nations weapons inspectors visited Iraq and almost completely dismantled major weapons factories and destroyed almost all of the country's biological and chemical weapons and long-range missiles. Yet at the same time, the United States supported Pakistan's nuclear dictator. This leads people to think that American intervention was not limited to preventing Saddam Hussein. According to Gareth Evans, president of the International Crisis Group, Iraq does not pose an apparent threat. He said the Iraqi threat required intent and clear danger. In addition to this, the United States claims that there were possible links between Al-Qaeda and Iraq. There have been reports that contact actually took place with bin Laden, but it does not appear to have resulted in a collaborative relationship as two senior associates of bin Laden have denied any connection existed.... middle paper.....
