    Although physical health is not directly affected by a child's mental state, children with mental health problems are more likely to suffer from a chronic health problem, which will follow them into adulthood. Of all children with a mental illness, forty percent have two or more mental illnesses. A child with a mental illness is more likely to develop even more mental illnesses as an adult. An adult with one or more mental disorders is less likely to work or participate positively in the community (cdc.gov). The large number of children who have struggled in school, had difficulty getting along with peers, and who have become estranged from their families due to mental illness are unlikely to continue their education or will not work as adults. Since these adults do very little, there is a greater chance that they will turn to substance abuse (NHPF.ORG). According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the population of people with mental illness uses thirty-eight percent alcohol and forty-four percent cocaine (dual diagnosis). ADD AN ENDING
