  • Essay / Persuasive Essay on Support for the Death Penalty

Added to these costs is the cost of lethal injection itself, which is how most states carry it out today. All these costs added together are normally greater than the cost of lifelong confinement. Another argument is that by executing a murderer there is no hope for him to regret his crime and be rehabilitated. To me, there is no doubt whether the death penalty should be used or not. It stands to reason that if a person knows that he himself will be put to death if he takes someone else's life, then he is less likely to commit the murder. The death penalty therefore helps prevent crime, as proven by the study carried out by Naci Mocan. Also, as they say today, “what goes around comes around”. If a person intentionally takes the life of another, then it is right and just for their life to be taken away. This helps balance good and evil in society. I believe in the death penalty, and to anyone who still needs convincing that the death penalty should be used, I would suggest reading the story of the Oklahoma City bombing which was a terrorist attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building downtown.
