Essay / MLK- A Life - 762
Martin Luther King Jr. - A Life by Marshall FradyMartin Luther King Jr. is a hero to many. He is an important figure because of his involvement in civil rights, his power of persuasion and his work for equality. Marshall Frady is the author of Martin Luther King, Jr. – A Life, a biography about MLK. Frady was a television and magazine writer who spent most of his time with King in the 1960s. Frady covered all the marches, speeches and trials that accompanied the early years of the (Viking) civil rights movement. He was an American journalist and author, best known for his work on the African-American civil rights movement in South America (Viking). This book was intriguing, fascinating and balanced with a unique writing style. This is a book that highlights all the important aspects of King's life, especially his work in the ministry, his vision of racial progress, and the important person he became. After reading this book, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of this biography was to convey the truth. Telling the truth about what really happened in MLK's life from a fair perspective. From someone who would not judge or show bias in his writing towards King. At some point in our lives, we all hear about MLK and the incredible things he accomplished. But that's what we only hear about the "amazing" things, never the real truth about who he was as a person. We were implanted with this image that MLK was “perfect” and had no flaws. A lot of what Frady wrote in this book was new information to me. Like I said, I've always heard the most important and positive things about King. I could talk about everything that happened in this book, but I won't. Most of this stuff we...... middle of paper ...... and dreams. Despite everything, Daddy King pushed his son to believe in himself and face life's challenges. Without him, I don't think King would have ever realized his true calling, the day of the boycott after the arrest of Rosa Parks. Marshall Frady did an incredible job writing this biography because he allowed us to see that MLK was just like any other person. He had a heart and issues/struggles of his own, just like us. Every event Frady describes in this book has been described in sufficient detail. You can see the before, during and after each event. This book was very well written and flowed very well. Although at times I had to reread some parts because the writing style was really high. But overall Frady did a phenomenal job and I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Martin Luther King Jr..
