Section [A]: Survey Plan Research question: “Did Jawaharlal Nehru’s “foresight policy” it led to Indian defeat in the Sino-Indian war of 1962? “Between mid-1959 and 1962, India and China fought a series of border skirmishes and wars that ultimately resulted in China's victory over India. During this period, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru devised a highly controversial military stratagem called the "prospective policy" which dictated most of India's military activities until 1962. To find out the extent to which this policy led to Indian defeat alone, this research will explore primary documents such as letters exchanged between Zhou Enlai and Nehru and an official CIA report on the conflict to gain deeper insight. Second, conflicting historical sources and analytical studies on the interpretations and implementation of foresight policy will be examined in detail. Finally, this essay will chronologically integrate the formation, exacerbation of tensions, foreign interference and significant conflicts between 1959 and 1962, which will be analyzed to determine their effect on the development and repercussions of the prospective policy on India. B]: Summary of EvidenceForward Policy Formation• Faced with an apparent threat from the Chinese government, the Dalai Lama fled Lhasa for Tawang in India during the Tibetan uprising of 1959.• Nehru, by his principles of "sovereignty and freedom" , offered refuge from the Dalai Lama.
