Today I'm going to talk to you about Edgar Allan Poe, his early career, his major works and his tragic death. But first, let's know where it comes from. Poe was born on January 19, 1809, in Boston, Massachusetts. He never really knew his parents, both professional actors. His father left the family at an early age and his mother died before he was three years old. He was a foster child raised by Frances and John Allan. John Allan, being a famous tobacco importer, sent Poe to many graduate schools. John sent Poe to the University of Virginia, where Poe did extremely well. Since Poe did not receive enough money from John Allan to pay for college, he moved to Boston and enlisted in the U.S. Army (The Biography.com). He also published his first collection of poetry, Tamerlane and Other Poems. The volume went unnoticed by readers and critics, along with a second collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane and Minor Poems (Poetry Foundation).
