Essay / Where Appearance Judgments Come From
“Society can be judgmental!” » At work, at school, at university, even while walking down the street, we can feel the judgment of others. We live in a world where, when looking at a person's body type or appearance, we immediately jump to conclusions without even knowing their personality and behavior. I have personally experienced judgment over the years based on my height, weight, and appearance. These judgments may come from our social construct and the way our society is divided into different classes, which causes people to see the world from different perspectives. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay “You are too short for this brother”, “should I call you a dwarf or a dwarf”, these are just a few of many. comments I receive every day because of my physical appearance. Short people are considered weak and helpless, unable to play sports. For example, I can relate to this from my experience in high school when I played team sports like basketball and football with my peers in gym class. I was always chosen last because of my short structure. Because of my small frame, people think that I am more vulnerable and defenseless than someone who is taller than me. For example, in high school, people would try to fight with me to impress others and show that they were powerful and tough. Additionally, because of these biases and stereotypes that people have towards my small structure, it has changed my own perspective and caused me to judge myself and think that perhaps I am not as useful or capable than someone who is bigger than me. For example, I can understand this through my experience when I went to a job interview and saw that most of the people who came to the interview were much taller than me and because of these stereotypes that society implanted in my brain about short people, I lost I was confident and told myself I couldn't get this job because of my short stature, which led me to not expressing myself to the interviewer as much as I would have liked. Finally, because of my small size, I receive a lot of negative comments from people and even my friends. For example, one day I invited some of my friends to the family party organized by my mother and after my friends arrived at the party and saw my family, especially my father and my uncles who are much older bigger than me, their first expression was: why are they? you're so small compared to your family and it made me feel like maybe I was a "loser" just because I'm small. Overall, my size has changed the way people look at me and caused me to be judged by the people around me. Overweight people are judged in today's society. Being obese or overweight these days is like committing a crime and people are judges in court. The way our society is built, people judge you based on your appearance and they always expect you to maintain a specific weight or "look" or else you can be judged. In society's eyes, overweight people lack willpower and are hopeless, they also assume that we are unhealthy and depressed. For example, the other day I was doing bench press at the gym and a random guy that I barely knew came up to me and started telling me that I should do more cardio exercises since I'm in.
