Having a set of core values can provide many benefits to an organization. One benefit is that it can help organizational members make better and more informed decisions (Dennette, 2011). It may happen that as an employee you are faced with a situation where the right decision is not clear. Reviewing your company's core values could potentially give you the information you need to make the best decision. Another benefit of core values is that they can educate individuals both outside and inside your organization (Dennette, 2011). Having a list of company core values lets other businesses or potential customers know what is important to your business and whether or not your business is a good fit. If they can identify with your set of core values, this could result in encouraging them to want to work with you. The core values followed by an organization may vary from one organization to another. The same can also be said for many law enforcement agencies. However, core values can sometimes vary depending on the size of the organization and the size of the community in which it operates. However, most departments generally follow a few core values that revolve around community. Generally, department values revolve around some form of involvement within that community, and the departments' commitment to the community they are charged to serve.
