Many words can describe WEB Du Bois, an activist, civil rights leader, poet, educator, and scholar, to name a few some. Before Martin Luther King Jr. or Malcom Du Bois's mission was to achieve equal rights for blacks in a society controlled by the dominant white race who strongly advocated a segregated world. His work will not go unnoticed. He was the first to organize a conference on the welfare of people of African descent. These series of organizations were the Pan-African Conferences. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. in his hometown, blacks and whites lived together. Segregation was not widely emphasized compared to that of the South. At school, he was a very bright student with a lot of potential. Graduating from high school in 1884, he was named valedictorian.
