Essay / Essay on Becoming a Teacher - 3095
I am an African American female attending the University of Chicago Charter School located on the South Side of Chicago. I am seventeen years old and live and go to school in a predominantly black neighborhood. I have seen many in my seventeen years of life. My goal is to go to college and become a teacher, so I can return to Chicago and help people in my community. In six years, I will give back to the community and help the world become a better place. I will help teach children not to live in stereotypes and let them tear them down. Race plays an important role in society. This is the reason why different races don't get along these days because other races think they are better than others and have more power. Slavery has always existed and probably always will because of the country we live in. Racism is not necessary and we should all get along and be treated equally. I love all racing and feel like everyone should get along. All ethnic groups and different races must learn to come together. We all have the same goals in life, but we will never know because we will not be united. Becoming an elementary school teacher is very important to me because it is my number one goal in life. I feel like African American children have low test scores due to lack of preparation and are not interested in learning. As a teacher, I would teach my students in an interesting way, in a way that I know they would enjoy, but most importantly, my goal is to help them learn and be smart. I plan to teach my students how to be proud to be African American and push them to work harder. I would tell them that no matter what others say about you or your race, you are still intelligent. Afric...... middle of paper ......h hatred towards white people. Slavery played a major role, as did ignorance. Some people think highly of themselves and put others down to think they are better and more superior. It is also one of the main causes of racism. Me: Do you think racism is still the same or has it changed over the years? Ashley: I thought it changed over time. Racism is still bad today, but it was worse back then. It seems that back then all white people were mean to African Americans and didn't like them. They didn't even have a valid reason to dislike us because we were the ones being treated poorly. This country has come a long way but we still have a lot of room for improvement. Situations like Don Sterling cannot happen. We must love each other and understand that we all have the same rights and should be treated the same..
